CPR — The beat that saves
Front
CPR
The beat that saves
Chest compressions that keep blood moving when a heart has stopped.
Back
Push hard, push fast, centre of the chest. 100 to 120 compressions per minute. That is the tempo of "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees. The song title is the instruction. CPR keeps blood flowing to the brain until help arrives. It does not restart the heart. It buys time.
- Hands-only CPR (no mouth-to-mouth) is effective and recommended for untrained bystanders.
- A person whose heart has stopped has minutes. CPR can double or triple the chance of survival.
