Only 2.5% of Earth's water is fresh. Most of that is locked in ice. India has 18% of the world's population and about 4% of its fresh water. The numbers do not balance. They can only work with conservation, better distribution, and reduced waste. The water crisis is not about supply. It is about use.
- NITI Aayog estimated that by 2030, India's water demand will be twice the available supply.
- A 10-minute shower uses about 200 litres. A bucket bath uses about 20. The choice is daily.
