Three letters, total transparency
A law letting any citizen ask a public body what it did and why.

The Right to Information Act (2005) lets any citizen ask any government body what it did, why, and how much it spent. The reply is due in 30 days. The filing fee is 10 rupees. RTI has been used to expose corruption, recover public funds, and force accountability at every level of government.
- You do not need a lawyer to file an RTI. Write a letter, pay the fee, and send it to the Public Information Officer of the relevant department.
- If the department does not reply within 30 days, you can appeal to the Central or State Information Commission.
