Added in 1976, eleven duties are listed in the Constitution. Respect the flag. Protect the environment. Develop scientific temper. Safeguard public property. No court can enforce them. They are moral obligations. Rights without duties is a one-sided contract.
- The duties were recommended by the Swaran Singh Committee and added by the 42nd Amendment.
- "Scientific temper" is the only constitution in the world that lists developing a scientific attitude as a citizen's duty.
