In a disaster, help takes about 72 hours to arrive. A kit bridges the gap: 3 litres of water per person per day, a torch, a first-aid box, copies of identity documents, cash, and a charged phone. The kit is not for the disaster. It is for the wait after.
- Store it somewhere easy to grab. A bag by the door works. Check it every six months.
- NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority) publishes a checklist. It is free and available online.
