Muscles that have not been warmed up tear more easily. A five-minute warm-up increases blood flow, raises muscle temperature, and prepares joints to move. Performance improves. Injury risk drops. The warm-up is not optional. It is the cheapest form of injury prevention in any sport.
- A warm-up should match the activity. Running? Start with a walk, then a jog. Cricket? Start with arm circles and throws.
- Stretching works best after exercise, not before. Before exercise, move.
